Technical Manager

Full Time, Permanent Position

The award winning Bay Tree Food Co Limited, based in the South West, wishes to recruit an experienced Technical professional to take up the position of Technical Manager within our food manufacturing site in Lee Mill, Devon.

As the head of the Technical function you will be required to provide effective leadership and develop the skills of your team. Balancing the administrative, desk-based part of the role with the hands-on technical and quality focused duties in order to uphold and maintain our current BRC accreditation.

The successful candidate will be required to maintain and develop the technical systems, including the development and amendments to new and existing products in order to meet company and customer requirements, as well as legislative and food safety compliance.

Key requirements:

The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language with previous experience in a similar role being essential.  An internal auditor, Food Safety (to level 3 minimum) and a food technology degree/HND would be desirable but not essential providing that relevant knowledge and experience can be proven.

Technical & Quality Analyst

Full Time, Permanent Position
37.5 hrs p/w (May need to be flexible to suit business needs.)

Salary range £17,394 to £19,500

Main Purpose of the Job

Maintenance of components of the company’s positive release system to ensure that all products released meet all quality, food safety and legal compliance set either by the company or external bodies. Assistance in all areas of the Technical Function to ensure continued compliance throughout the factory to procedures and activities to ensure continued compliance and company improvements.

Main Responsibilities and Duties include:

  • Assist in the organisation, lead and minute quality meetings to challenge and drive standards and attainment to KPI
  • To assist in the TACCP procedure, ensure all ingredients are appropriately risk assessed and the necessary outcomes are effectively communicated throughout to ensure claims and agreed controls are actioned.
  • To maintain the supplier approval procedure ensuring all relevant documentation is up to date.
  • To assist in the completion of hygiene and GMP audits (as required to schedule), raise non-conformances and follow up on agreed actions
  • To maintain the associated systems for audit production documentation, raising non-conformances and following up on agreed actions until a satisfactory conclusion
  • To maintain the positive release procedure ensuring all manufactured products meet the required quality standards.
  • Assist in the collation, production and presentation of weekly and monthly quality performance and analysis reports to management meetings.
  • To ensure due diligence assessments and validations are undertaken on first production runs and product launches
  • To raise non-conformances, undertake investigation of root causes, and follow up on agreed actions
  • Collate and enter production data as required to ensure data is available for monthly KPI & technical reports
  • Ensure all equipment used throughout the factory is controlled, monitored and suitable for use, including calibration schedules are followed
  • Maintenance of the shelf life & quality assessment samples library
  • To assist investigations of quality related customer complaints where required, prepare technical reports detailing agreed corrective actions, prepare trending reports and follow up on agreed actions
  • To undertake any other duties as may be required within the scope of the post including providing support to the Quality Assurance & Technical Co-Ordinators.

The post holder is required to be methodical, accurate and have an eye for detail with strong problem solving and analytical skills.

The post holder is required to be innovative and flexible in their approach to working across both sites and be able to accurately achieve tight deadlines. 

It is essential that the post holder has/is:

  • Be educated to at least 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at C grade or above including English Language and Mathematics or a minimum of Level 2 qualification in HACCP & Food Safety Management
  • Has a minimum of 2 years employment within a similar role.
  • Be proficient in the use of – Microsoft IT packages. 
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Has knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety issues particularly with regard to the food industry.
  • Has effective and positive communication skills including strong lone working and team work skills.
  • Be able to maintain high concentration skills.
  • Be self-motivated, reliable and enthusiastic.

It is desirable that the post holder:

  • Has experience of working within a similar food manufacturing environment with experience of BRC accreditation.
  • Has a recognised administrative and/or technical/quality assurance qualification.
  • Has a minimum of 1 year working in a quality assurance co-ordinating role.

Production Operatives

Shift pattern Mon-Thurs (Total 37.5 hrs p/w).

We are looking to recruit hardworking and quality focused individuals to join and strengthen our highly successful production team.

Based within our Production and Packing Departments, you will be developed to become a multi-skilled operator, working as part of our team manufacturing Award Winning Preserves and Condiments.

Ideally, candidates should have previous experience working within a food production environment or similar.

Basic Food Hygiene certificate or equivalent would be advantageous but is not essential as full training will be provided.
